This project took place in Iceland during a 3-month community engagement art residency. It was an unannounced project during school recess. In a minimalist approach, it took place in the schoolyard and was easily grasped by the children. Despite wind, I tried to draw a straight line with black ink. Only if children decided to participate and hold the sheets was I able to draw a somewhat straight line. They could decide to act differently, e.g. by moving the papers even more. In any case, the line drawn depicts collaborative movement. The line can be read as a map of social interaction, as ‘social cartography’ in process. Watching the video closely, you can see that what happened was that I was ‘performed out of’ the performance, becoming the holder of the ink container with brushes being tipped into it and ink being spilled over my hands creating a second ink map on my skin.
